In minutes following a cardiac arrest, death will occur if no intervention is made. Sometimes CPR alone is not enough. It is becoming more urgent and in some cases, mandatory to have an AED onsite with personnel trained to use it. AEDs are programmed NOT to shock anyone who does not need the shock.
